Occupational Therapy
Early neurodevelopmental assessment, intervention & coaching
Early intervention is very important for babies and toddlers requiring that little bit extra to support their development and family wellbeing. Your baby may have had a diagnosis at birth, have had complications in their neonatal stay, or you may just been concerned about their development.
The earlier you can be equipped with tools and support the better.
Baby development is complex and amazing in the first 1000 days and includes many aspects including motor skills, play, social engagement, sensory processing and learning. Whilst a baby is learning to move, roll, sit, crawl and walk, they are also developing their skills in play, using their hands, socialising and communication.
It’s important to look at all aspects of development as each supports the other.
Occupational therapy is an important piece in the team supporting you and your baby. Babies and toddlers who have had a NICU stay can have challenges with sensory processing affecting settling, sleeping, engaging, emotionally regulating, feeding & weaning. They might also experience delays in their play - in exploring toys, in using their hands equally and together - and in their gross and fine motor skills.
Occupational Therapy can support your baby and you in all of these areas.
We will provide assessment, 1:1 interventions and parent coaching to support you and your baby or toddler’s ability to:
Settle and more predictably move through their wake-sleep states so they can better feed, play and engage with you
Sleep - learn about the importance of sleep pressure, baby biological rhythms and how to ‘read their cues’ for good sleep
Engage with and process sensory information from their environment to learn, move and play.
Use their upper body and both hands to explore their environment and toys
Ensure your baby’s positioning and gross motor skills support early fine motor and sensory motor development
Interact with you in play and everyday activities
